New Garbage & Recycling Information

Beginning in September, Peterson Sanitation will be providing garbage and recycling services for the Village of Merrimac. 

• The pick-up schedule will remain weekly for both garbage and recycling, on Monday mornings.  
• Residential collection of garbage is limited to the equivalent of Four (4) – Thirty (30) gallon (120 gallons total) bags or containers per week.
• For special pickup of large metal items, tires, computer monitor, TVs, building materials, appliances, etc. call Peterson Sanitation at 608-524-6603. 
• Residential Recycling: Newspaper, magazines and cardboard are to be bundled separately.  Plastic bottles, aluminum cans, empty aerosol canisters etc. are to be placed in a clear bag. Recycling placed in a black bag will not be picked up.  
• Items for collection are not to be put out earlier than twenty‑four (24) hours before the regular collection time.  Residential items shall be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection.
• When the normal garbage pick-up day falls on a Monday holiday, the adjusted pick-up day will be Tuesday.  Note: If a Holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, your Monday trash pickup will remain unchanged.

HOLIDAY COLLECTION CHANGE If a holiday falls on your collection day, your trash and/or recycling collection will take place the following day. And any collection days after the holiday will be bumped back 1 day. So, for example, Thanksgiving = Thursday service will be done on Friday, and Friday service will be done on Saturday.
