Lead Service Line (LSL) Inventory
Lead Service Line (LSL) Inventory
As required by EPA, the Village of Merrimac has conducted a thorough inventory of all water service lines in the Village, both upstream and downstream of the curb boxes. This inventory included:
- The review of:
o Planning documents, drawings, specifications, and bookkeeping records for all Village water projects.
o Meter installation and replacement records in our accounting software.
o Cross connection surveys documentation.
o Tax records & historical aerial imagery.
- Discussions & windshield survey with current and retired public works personnel. Personnel report that during their combined years of service (1984-2024), they have never encountered any lead service lines in the Village.
- During 2023-2024, owner interviews and in-basement inspections of over 120 service lines installed before 1986 (when lead service lines were banned)
The Village’s Inventory reached the following conclusions:
- Of the approximately 320 service lines, the Village was able to confirm the materials of construction for 310, which are all either copper or plastic.
- Approximately 9 service lines have at least one segment that are classified as “Unknown- May be Lead” which require underground investigation.
- There is one service line that is Galvanized Iron.
- No lead service lines were encountered.
The Inventory will be available for public review at Village Hall by December 31.
